These are text messages that are sent as "FREE" texts by shopnsave.co.ke subscribers.

The texts have sponsors who buy part of the text as an advertising space.

When sending a "FREE" text, the sender has a part of the 160 characters at his discretion and the rest is for the sponsor"s advert which will be attached to the message on sending.

An example:

Company Y, which manufactures detergent Tass, sponsors "FREE" texts and in the process run this trailer in the "FREE" texts: "Tass, because dirt is good!"

When a subscriber sends a "FREE" text: "Hi Barack lets meet at our usual place." The advert will be concatenated with the text to form the whole text message as "Hi Peter lets meet at our usual place. " + "Tass, because dirt is good!"

The message that the recipient will receive will be:

"Hi Peter lets meet at our usual place. >> Tass, because dirt is good!"

There is no way Peter would miss the advert and as a result this method of advertising has a wide reach and is guaranteed to reach the targeted audience as compared to radio, TV and newspaper ads.
