In marketing terms, a coupon is a ticket or document that can be exchanged for a financial discount or rebate when purchasing a product.
SMS-based coupons are marketing coupons that are in a text message format.
How it works
Based on a prior agreement with an advertiser/merchant, unique codes are generated and sent as text messages to a number of the advertiser’s / merchant's customers/subscribers.
When a subscriber/customer presents the SMS coupon when buying a product from this particular advertiser/merchant, he/she is given the discount or rebate as indicated in the coupon.
All the crucial information about the coupon is included in the text e.g. the duration for which it’s valid, the discount on offer, etc.
